Herman is 11 yrs old and is great with other dogs. Herman would do best in a home with another dog to keep him company. But may be ok alone too if the humans were home a lot.
My name is Herman, but my friends call me Hermie, I celebrated my 11th birthday in March and am looking pretty darn good for a man my age. I am young at heart though, running up and down the stairs from the porch to the yard (I love laying in the nice warm sun) and going for walks with my foster family are great things to do for running off any extra energy.
When I was rescued, I was very thin and had very little hair; coming to live in Minnesota was quite a change, to say the least! Thankfully my foster family has lots of sweaters for me to wear, so now I'm always warm AND fashionable. Since then, I’ve put on a pound or so and have started growing fur with gusto so I am looking pretty good, if I do say so myself. I am a handsome blue and brown yorkie and once my fur does grow out all nice and long, it will be a beautiful flowing silver coat for you to brag about on our trips to the pet store (only to buy food and toys, of course, never to buy a pet).
My foster mom says I’m “food motivated”, whatever that means in the human world. In my world, it just means I’ll shamelessly do anything on command for a treat and am full of tear-around-the-house happy energy when I know it’s mealtime. But I am also a gentleman with fine manners, I don’t jump up at humans without being invited and don't bark much, I only start barking when one of my foster brothers gets going. While I do appreciate treats and am more than happy to work for them, I also make sure I maintain my sleek 8 ½ pounds of lean mean cuddle machine. I never intend to become a “fatty”!
When I need to go to the potty, I start circling inside the house and my human brings me outside to do my business. I’ve also learned from the resident dog that if I need to go out, I can just sit by the back door and wait, my human will let me out to get things done. He's pretty well trained too! When the humans aren’t home, I am happy to use a piddle pad, I know where to do those biological things and middle of the living room floor is not the right place. I am also great with other dogs - I can be part of a pack or I can be an only dog. As long as I get to hang out with my human(s) every day, I am a content little guy. Are you ready to be content right along with me?
Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.
