Hi! I'm George Washington, a 9.5 year old Border Collie and I weigh about 50 pounds. My foster mom tells me that I'm the sweetest and smartest guy around! I really enjoy being outside (on nice days, of course) to smell all of the exciting things in my fenced in backyard. When I'm inside, I'm really easy going and just enjoy laying on the couch or in a safe corner on the floor when the couch gets too soft. Sometimes I like some extra attention and will gently pat my foster mom with my paw so that she'll rub my head and ears for me! I know how to come, sit, shake and lay down and I know to go potty outside. I really like going into my crate to sleep at night because my foster mom gives me the best treats right before bed!
When I got to Minnesota and had my check-up at the vet, the doctor told me I had heartworms. I had to go through treatment to get rid of them for 3 months and now I'm heartworm free! I feel so much better now that they are gone. I need to be on heartworm prevention pills all year round now though so that I don't get infected with heartworm again. Luckily, that medicine tastes just like a treat!
I come from a scary background and am nervous around new people but once you earn my trust, I'll stick by your side and look to you for guidance when I'm in a scary situation. I'm not used to being in public places so all the noises are very new to me and make me uncertain. My foster mom is very encouraging when I get scared and her confidence lets me know I'll be alright. I also have three fur siblings at my foster home. I usually like to keep to myself so I let them know that I don't want to play by showing them my teeth. I don't mean any harm, I just want to be left alone. I really like having fur siblings even though I don't like to play a lot because they show me how to be a more confident dog!
It's so great to feel what love is like from people and I can't wait to find even more people to love me!
Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:
Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE:
The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.
FOSTER CARE:
All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application.
NUTRITION:
Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
