Olga is new to our rescue. She is about 6-7 years old and 49 pounds. She is a very shy girl but learning to trust people more and more each day. She is a very sweet girl!!
Here's what her foster family has to say about her:
When Olga first came to us, she was the most submissive dog that I've ever met. If you looked directly at her, she would go down to the ground and roll over on her back. Things have improved though.
She is a very sweet and mild-mannered dog that is overcoming her shyness. This shouldn't be mistaken for fear. I've seen fearful dogs before and that isn't her. Her issue is lack of confidence not fear.
As far as positives go:
She is great on a leash, but prefers to be harnessed rather than led by the collar. She doesn't pull or drag. She loves going for walks, but I doubt that she would be much of a runner. I haven't tried to take her running with me, so I can't say for certain.
She is crate trained and potty trained!
She is good with cats. We have two and she avoids our cat that doesn't like dogs and she interacts with the curious one.
She is good with other dogs. She seems to light up more around little dogs but doesn't have problems with big dogs either. I have seen her play with other dogs, but she and Ford don't play for some reason. I think his size makes her a little nervous. She is definitely submissive although will stand up for herself if pushed far enough. My cousin brought over her foster dog that is a frenchie/rat terrier mix named Mack. Mack kept trying to hump her but failed to reach. After 15 minutes of his shenanigans, she did turn and snarl at him and he backed off. It wasn't aggression as much as is was her saying "leave me alone." I think that she would do fine in a house with other dogs or as an only dog, because she seems to like her people more than other dogs. The only dog-related situation that I might be concerned about is that if she was with a super dominant big dog. I could see her getting pushed around too much and reacting eventually.
She has seen lots of kids at the park where we walk her and some of them have petted her. She was fine with it, so I would say that she would likely be fine with older kids. She hasn't been in a situation where noisy young child is hanging on her and because of this I would say that we don't know how she would be around young kids.
She is a very smart dog and trainable. She now knows that she has to sit before we let her back in the house after going to the bathroom and knows to go in her crate when it is time to eat. I haven't had time to take her through obedience training, but I think that she would do well and it would probably do wonders for her confidence.
She eats in her crate. Grain-free kibble that is wetted, because her tooth situation isn't the best.
Negatives:
The biggest negative is her shyness. She needs to be forced to socialize. She is getting more and more comfortable, but her tendency is to find a space under a table or in a corner and hide. She does warm up to people with time but strangers make her want to hide. Again, I think with bonding with her owner and some obedience training that the shyness will be overcome.
