Hello, I’m Laya, a stunning and quiet adult female Yorkie. It must be said that I have come a long way since living with foster mom and have made AMAZING progress!  When I first got here, I was very timid & shy. In fact, I preferred to find peace by myself, and not only did I sleep a lot but if a human approached me, I got so scared that my entire body would shake, and I’d squish myself as far into a corner as I could…I mean I didn’t get aggressive or anything, but I was so terrified that I would just cower. Now sure, I’m still shy with new people and will shake & cower but I rarely run away.

Thankfully, foster mom is an amazingly loving lady who shows me LOTS of patience and provides loving encouragement to help me overcome my fears. After a few short weeks I now will walk in & out of the apartment, and I will even go down the stairs or in the elevator! YAY for miss Laya am I right!?! I also enjoy sleeping in bed with mom, relaxing on the couch, chewing on bully sticks, eating moist food mixed with my kibble, eating treats, playing with my tiny cat toy, frolicking with my fur sibs, and…get this, I don’t even mind being brushed or having my nails trimmed! Now seriously, am I becoming quite the brave little princess or what!?! Hee, hee!!

I have not met any cats and I prefer only calm children that are respectful of my size and space, but I do great with other dogs. As a matter of fact, I live with a mini Goldendoodle, and we have started to play together so hopefully I will have a companion at my new home too. I am a smart girl who does my business outside and I’m crate trained. That said, for the first week I was here foster mom kenneled me at night and when she was gone but now, she leaves me out because I don’t make messes or eat anything I shouldn’t! Clearly you can see that I am a VERY good girl! Hee, hee!! Anyway, although I am leash trained, I still fear getting my harness on but once I’m all harnessed up, believe me, I walk like a champ with the most beautiful, confident smile you have EVER seen!

All I need now is YOU! My dream is to find my fur-ever home with a patient, unconditionally loving family that will NEVER give up on me and something inside me says that YOU are my dream family! I may be little, but my heart is enormous and it’s full of love that I want to share with a special someone. I promise I’m worth it and we will have the most wonderful life together! Love, Laya

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in th eir forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a    particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
