Hello, my name is Gerbert. I am a very regal young adult male Corgi with the most beautiful tail that’s always waggin’!  I am a quiet boy who is still a bit fearful of and slow to warm up to new environments and people, but I am feeling more comfortable every day. In fact, I recently spent some time at a temporary foster home, and I did great! It really helps when people kneel to my level while I try to get to know them. I mean imagine how nervous you’d be if a giant hovered over you and expected you to feel safe! I’m just sayin’!!

I live with some older kids who I am slowly learning to trust and if they’re calm and relaxed, I will even cuddle with them! That said, my ideal fur-ever home will be a quiet one with no small children. On the other paw, when it comes to fur friends, I am always respectful of cats, and I LOVE to play with and take queues from other dogs. Therefore, I will need a doggie companion at my new home and since I don’t have much leash experience and my skittishness makes me a flight risk a fenced yard is a must as well!

My favorite activities include cuddling with my people, napping on the couch, chewing on/playing with toys, playing with my fur sibs, and eating all kinds of food (even broccoli). I am not food aggressive, but I love eating so much that, if given the chance, I will try to eat everyone else’s food too!! My kennel/crate is my safe place and it’s where I go if things get too loud or crazy around the house. I am one of those who likes routine…I want to know what to expect next! Potty training is going great!! I admittedly still occasionally mark on things that are new to me, but I have been SO good about not having accidents in the house that foster mom has put the rugs back down and they’ve remained completely clean, AND I have learned to use the ‘potty bells’ on the door to let mom know I need to go out!! YAY Gerbert, I am a rockstar!!!

Anyway, I truly am a gentle boy who is sweet as can be and I am simply looking for the calm and quiet fur-ever home I so richly deserve. I need a patient family who not only understands that it’s all baby steps with me but who will love me unconditionally and NEVER give up on me. I have spent my whole life dreaming about my own fur-ever family and I promise, if you rescue me, I will rescue you right back!!! Love, Gerbert

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a  particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
