Hello, my name is Nugget. I am a very loving and affectionate young adult female Chihuahua who adores my people and I LOVE to be held and showered with warmth and tenderness!! I would have to say that foster mom is currently my favorite person in the world not only because I get to follow her around everywhere she goes but because she says that I am “the most wonderful little girl” which is totally true! Mom is trying to introduce me to toys but so far, I am not crazy about them. I do however, I enjoy chewing on bully sticks, eating, and going on leashed walks! I even do great with steps, especially when I get to use them to access the couch and mama’s bed! Hee, hee!!
I have not met any larger dogs, cats, or kids, I am VERY FEARFUL of strangers. As a matter of fact, when mom and I are on walks and we pass other people, I will stop in my tracks and try getting away as soon as possible so mom is trying to teach me to “sit” when this happens. My foster mom said I am doing much better. I am also EXTREMELY fearful of a lot of commotion, and most noises like thunderstorms etc. so a home with kids is not a good fit for me especially since I can be aggressive if I’m cornered. Although I can be a bit bossy, I am, good with other small doggies like me and I have even stopped trying to steal my foster sibs food! Hee, hee!! I am a smart, well-mannered girl who is great about going potty outside but I’m still working on pooping out there, I do use potty pads in the house. Additionally, mom is teaching me what to do when she says, “leave it”, “go potty”, and “up”. Now, as for that cave thing you humans call a ‘kennel/crate’… well, let’s just say that I have a bit of separation anxiety when I’m in that box and I will voice my discontent but I do stop after awhile. That said, I do sleep in it at night if mom puts it right next to her bed but I would rather sleep in my foster mom big bed.
The only thing missing from my wonderful life is YOU! Each night when I nod off to sleep, I dream of this amazing place where there are people who not only shower me with unconditional love and are home with me most of the time, but they cuddle with me regularly and always keep me safe!! I think I’ve heard mom call it a ‘forever’ home and I want my own furever home more than you could possibly imagine! If you promise to NEVER give up on me than I would love for YOU to be my new family. I assure you that this little ‘nugget’ (see what I did there? Tee, hee!) will bring a happiness to your life that you could never possibly imagine!! Love, Nugget
Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION EVENTS:
Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE:
The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.
FOSTER CARE:
All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application.
NUTRITION:
Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
