Hi, my name is Kaya.  I’m a female Boston Terrier who is almost 6 years old.  I’m a super sweet little companion.   My little nub tail goes a mile a minute and I give a big toothy smile whenever I greet my humans.  I’m a wonderful snuggle buddy on the couch or in bed.  I’m great with older kids, and maybe younger ones, too, and am always respectful with kitty cats.  I am leash and crate trained.  I love to cuddle on the couch, go for walks, nap in cushy beds, and chew on yak cheese & marrow bones.

I do like to be the leader of the pack and of the humans I live with so I will probably need to go to a forever home with people with experience with working with dominant dogs like me!  My foster mom says I am a dominant type of dog.  I will need help learning how to relax around other dogs outside of the home and with general obedience.  Foster mom says I can be stubborn.  I say I just like to have my way.  Who doesn’t?

I don’t like to be away from my people and I love to be the center of attention.  I can be a bit reactive to dogs on walks, fixating and pulling on the leash to try to get over to the other dog.  Foster mom says I need to work on being polite when we see new dogs.

Foster mom says that I bark when someone comes to the door, or when I see another dog walk by the house, I bark at the neighbor’s dog on the other side of the backyard fence, and bark when I hear other dogs barking. I bark when my human puts me in the kennel and leaves the house (and continue barking for about 10-15 minutes), then I settle down, until I hear my human come home and I bark until she lets me out of the kennel. I bark less when left alone with the kennel door open in a room or gated off space. I am getting better at listening to the command “quiet”, but still need more training with it. I also bark less when I go for a long walk or have a training session to tucker me out before my human has to leave the house. When my humans are home with me then I am a quiet, content lady.

I don’t need another dog in the home, I would love to get all the attention to myself, but I would also be happy with another dog in the home. I get along best with dogs that are my size or smaller, older dogs, and dogs that are calm or submissive in nature. I might not get along with dogs that are bigger than me, dominant dogs, or young energetic dogs. Slow introductions is key.  I’m learning the words for come, down, wait, quiet, and outside/inside.  I have lots of love to give and in a forever home that will continue to train me and work with my leadership skills I will reach my full potential.

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
