So nice to meet you! Likewise, I'm sure. I am Nessie and my family calls me Miss Nessie because I am so special. That's what they say. My personality is sparkling and a bit sassy. I also have all those wonderful qualities of a Maltese. My foster mom says I am loving, gentle. loyal and the very best companion.
I was recently rescued and this fabulous big world is very new to me. Exploring outside is fascinating to me. I am learning to go potty outside and walking on grass is a brand new experience. My family is praising me for going potty outside and I am doing a good job with scheduled potty breaks. I am praised for everything I try to learn like climbing stairs, walking on leash, and following basic commands. One thing I have mastered already is exercising on the treadmill. I walk with my poodle sisters and my foster mom everyday. This helps me with leash walking skills. I am a pro at riding in the stroller, bike trailer and bike basket. My family keeps me on the go and all of these activities help me build my confidence.
My sassy side is evident in my bark. I have a loud bark and I am really good at barking so fast that I sound like an alarm going off. It seems obvious, but it needs to be stated that shared walls are a bad idea. Apartment and townhome living would be a big challenge for me. My foster family is working on teaching me to stay calm in my kennel and to lower the volume on my sass. I can be very cute with this sassy bark. However, this type of sass is not always cute or welcome.
Other things I am working on include sleeping in my kennel and being quiet in my kennel. Grooming and bathing are new to me. I stay pretty calm about all these grooming things my mom does. She praises and pets me to encourage me. I respond well to training methods that are consistent and when my human is patient and calm. I am also learning to trust the humans when they reach to pick me up. I am getting better and they say I am a quick learner about everything.
My sweet, sparkling nature is balanced with a sassy side that includes a loud bark. Sometimes, I have a lot to say and I don't know when to stop "talking." Training and corrections from my humans help me understand when my opinion is okay to share and when it is not. My family is very proud of all my efforts to figure out how to be a pack member here. They say I am smart and would be easy to train if my forever family committed to my transition to this new life. If you are dedicated to training and want to help me learn, I would like to meet you. Let's see what's next!

ADOPTION EVENTS:
Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE:
The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.
FOSTER CARE:
All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application.
NUTRITION:
Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
