Hello, I am a beautiful and quiet adult female Shiba Inu who’s formal name is Imani, but to pay homage to my ancestry, foster mom sometimes calls me Kiko, meaning “to rejoice and be glad” in Japanese.  I have an unusual coat pattern which mom says makes me “an extra special girl!!” I have spent the majority of my life raising kids…you humans call them puppies…but now it’s my turn to be pampered by a wonderful and patient person who will shower me with unconditional love, not give up on me and who understands that I need consistent training so I can learn all the things a dog should know in order to reach my full potential.

I am fearful of loud noises and commotion, so kids are not a good fit for me. I'm okay visiting other dogs but would prefer to keep my humans to myself.  The truth is, despite my big heart, I’m not really willing to share my people and home with other dogs. It’s a big scary world out there full of unfamiliar things and noises that startle me. I would love a fenced in yard, but am fine not having one. My foster parents don't have one, and I love walking 3-4 times a day! (I like walking with mom much more than my dad. Sorry, Dad!)

Anyway, I am a very smart girl who not only learned my name quickly, but I have already mastered steps…how brilliant am I!?! Additionally, I am potty trained when kept on a consistent schedule. I enjoy lounging in my room (you people call it a “kennel/crate”) during the day. At night I sleep on a fluffy dog pillow or under the bed.

I really am a friendly girl who not only doesn’t shy away from human touch, but I love gentle scratches and ear rubs. I am a great snuggler when Mom watches tv or reads. Additionally, when I’m happy and feel safe, I hold my tail up high! Mom says my tail is my “barometer, a window into my current emotional state” and even though I have no idea what a “barometer” is, I know she is totally correct. The only thing missing from my life now is YOU! I really look forward to the day when I my tail will always be held high on my back with pride! Please make me YOUR one-and-only, I promise I am worth it, and I will love you more than you can imagine!! Love, Imani.

Some of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. Others have come from various situations where they are lacking confidence in humans. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
