Hello, my name is Patricia. I am a very calm, sweet and beautiful female Anatolian Shepherd mix puppy who loves treats, chewing on toys and playing and romping with other doggies. Although I am a bit shy when I’m away from home, I am curious about everything so if there is anywhere in the house that foster mom doesn’t want me to go, she puts up one of those baby gate things… MAAANNN!!! Nothing like hindering one’s explorations am I right!?!

I have not met any kids or cats, but I currently live with my litter mate and another dog who is very large and believe me when I tell you that I am a fearless girl who can hold her own with both of them. Mom is teaching me the “sit” command and I already know what to do when she says “down” or “stay” so you can see that I am quite an intelligent young lady too!! I don’t like loud noises, being left alone or being put in that cave thing you people call a kennel/crate and I will not hesitate to yell at you if you leave me or put me in the cave. I am working on potty training and I do very well on the leash but since I won’t consistently do my business whilst tethered to it, my furever home should have a fenced yard where I can safely do my business and play!

All I need now is to find some unconditional love and stability in a furever home that I can call my own. If you are patient, promise to NOT give up on me and are looking for a wonderfully feisty snuggle-bug with whom to share your life then you need not look any further because I am your perfect match!! As a puppy, I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 – 4 hours. A bit about Anatolian Shepherds:   I am a super special breed, please read through the below to see if I am a fit for you! The Anatolian Shepherd Dog is a large and powerful dog, and is not suited for everyone. They were bred for hundreds, if not thousands, of years in their native Turkey as Livestock Guardians for the flocks of semi-nomadic shepherds. Their natural foes included wolves, bears, and wild boar. Anatolian Shepherds have only been in the U.S. since the 1970's and still retain their primitive instincts. They are quite different than most breeds of dogs that one would have as a pet as they have not been domesticated as most breeds.  Anatolians are hard wired to be independent thinkers, territorial, wary of strangers and often unfriendly to other dogs. What does it mean to be territorial?  Wary of strangers?  The Anatolian is naturally territorial and will always defend its home and family without any training.  It is their natural instinct to defend against who or what they feel are intruders.  The Anatolian may have a different view than you do of who are intruders and who are not.  Even though you feel Aunt Sue is a welcome visitor, your Anatolian may not see it the same way and may greet Aunt Sue with barking, raised hackles, possibly even growling.  You may need to make changes in the way you allow your dog to greet visitors if you have an Anatolian. What about other dogs?  Will they get along with my neighbor's dogs?  Maybe, maybe not.  Don't expect an Anatolian to be a social butterfly.  Some dogs are more easy going than others but many do not care for dogs of the same gender and dogs they do not know.  Dog parks are not always an option and doggy day care might be out of the question as well.   So you think you want a dog that will bark to alert you if something is amiss?  That's great, we all want the peace of mind in knowing that we have a protective dog on duty.  Just remember that the Anatolian is going to have a different set of ideas when it comes to deciding whether or not to bark. You may see it written on a website that they know the difference between what is a "real" threat and what is not and will only bark when necessary.  That's probably true, however, the Anatolian will have a different definition than you do of what is a "real threat."  Be prepared for barking.  If you live in town, you will not be able to leave your Anatolian outside overnight. They do most of their barking after the sun goes down and the predators come out.

**Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue.  Many of our puppies have a mama who had a past life as a breeder or stray and was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue.  Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters.  Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter.  Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society.   Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized.  If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! 

Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application.

We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward.

ADOPTION EVENTS:     

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
