Hello, my name is Niko, and I am a very good natured, friendly and well-behaved male Shiba Inu puppy who can even be trusted when I’m left alone. Foster mom says that I’m “probably the best puppy she’s ever met” which I have no doubt is true because I am truly an amazing little guy!! I live with two resident dogs with whom I like to lay around and play and I love getting pets from anyone willing to give them.

Foster mom has a lot of toys for us to play with and chew on and I cannot tell you how appreciated that is since I’m still a puppy and you know how we puppies can be! Hee, hee!! Some of my favorite toys include a rope and a hedgehog (whom I’ve named Sonic) and I love to toss them around. I also enjoy chewing on my bully sticks and eating snow…Yep, I loves me some snow…as a matter of fact, I’d be perfectly content to spend my whole day just chillin’ on a snowbank. Pun not intended but I did crack myself up there!! I really do love spending time outside exploring the world and all the wonderful smells.

I have not met any cats, but I am good with kids I even love to cuddle with my 5-year-old human sib. Foster mom says that I have the most “adorable howl” to alert when I have to go potty or I’m hungry but when it comes to that crate thing…well, let’s just say I don’t like it and will not hesitate to yell at you if you put me in there!! Anyway, since I don’t like the crate foster mom lets me sleep on my blanket and I LOVE it and will sleep all night on my nice cozy blanket. I am potty trained, and mom takes me potty on leash. Speaking of the leash, I do well on the leash…when I want to. In other words, in true Shiba fashion I walk when I want so foster mom has to be extremely patient so my new family will have to be as well.

Did I mention what an amazing kisser I am? If you are a patient person who is full of unconditional love and are looking for a great companion who will give you the best kisses you’ve ever had then you must meet me and hopefully take me home. I promise I’m worth it and I will keep you smiling! I am so excited to meet you! Kisses, Niko.

Some of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. Others have come from various situations where they are lacking confidence in humans. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

This puppy requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.          We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.

Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application.

We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
