Hello, my name is Callie, and I am an incredibly beautiful and quiet adult female Husky who is super sweet but very shy!! I am fearful of loud noises, commotion, men and still learning to trust humans in general. I get very nervous around you humans especially whenever you stand up or move suddenly…all I want to do then is find a nice safe corner or my crate in which to hide. I will only approach mom for hand sniffs if my resident fur sister who is a Husky just like me, is right next to mom. Mom tries every day to give me pets when I’m in my safe haven (crate) or a safe corner…this is really helping me to learn that getting pets isn’t so bad after all…as a matter of fact, it’s a really good thing!!
I know the “outside” command and my resident fur sister is helping me learn how to take regular potty breaks and I’m very good about waiting to go outside. We love to play and run around in our wonderfully fenced yard. As a matter of fact, when it’s just me and my fur sib, running and playing seems so natural that it just puts the biggest smile on my face and my pretty blue eyes just light up!!! I really hope my new home has a companion and a safely fenced yard where we can romp around. If foster mom comes out there with us, I tend to stay far away from and if my fur sib goes inside, I will usually follow her unless something startles me then it may be a bit of a chore to get me back in the house. One time, mom was going to take me to the doctor, and I admit that I made it a struggle for her to get that leash thing on me and get me into the car crate. She wasn’t thrilled about it of course but she’s a very patient lady who understands that I get nervous and just need some loving encouragement and patience. Additionally, sometimes when I’m walking on the leash I like to dart back and forth, side to side and sometimes my body even freezes. Mom just lovingly encourages me so we can continue. As for eating, I like to eat alone or in my kennel where nobody can watch me. Oh, and if one of the meowy things with whom I live walk by me when I’m eating, I will growl and lunge at them…needless to say, mom will feed me in a separate room or in my crate where I feel safe. I am very happy to report that, although I am a bundle of nerves and a bit skittish of my own shadow, I have never snapped at foster mom.
Despite the afore mentioned, I truly am a very sweet, quiet and calm girl who is slowly but surely coming out of my shell and I’m hoping to find a furever home that I can call my own with a patient person who will love me unconditionally, NOT give up on me and who will commit to helping me become the amazing dog I am destined to be. Are you ready to help me reach my full potential?? I am so ready to embark on an amazing journey with you!! Love, Callie.
Some of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. Others have come from various situations where they are lacking confidence in humans. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:
Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE:
The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.
FOSTER CARE:
All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application.
NUTRITION:
Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
