Hello, my name is Kensi, and I am a precious female Pomsky puppy who has liked everyone I have met thus far…even those with fur…I don’t mean hairy men…I mean four-legged fur friends like me. I cannot tell you how excited I am that you stopped by to learn more about lil ole me…Kensi! Oh my gosh, where do I begin?? Well, I’ll start by telling you that I am a deaf and vision impaired young lady and though my limitations haven’t stopped me at ALL from living life to the fullest, they do mean that I am in search of the most special furever home one could EVER imagine. My new home needs to be filled…actually overflowing with, unconditional love, patience, innovative training ideas and most of all…a commitment to my safety and well-being!!! My new family MUST understand what a commitment it is to completely care for a special needs pup like myself. Now, I know that’s a tough order to fill but I have all the confidence in the world that you…yes, YOU could be that amazingly special home I’m looking for. After all, I’m sure you wouldn’t have stopped by to learn more about me if you didn’t have a heart the size of the universe and the patience of a saint!!

I don’t see or hear social queues so I will need to have another doggie companion who will be able to help me navigate through life! I do get along with all size doggies, but my new sibling will need to be under 5 years old in order to match my energy level and be able to handle my spunky self and my persistent playfulness. He or she will also need to be my eyes and ears. I am not completely blind but can really only see shadows of things, but I assure you this doesn’t stop me from zippin’ and chasing my fur sibs around my safely fenced yard…by the way, a fenced yard is absolutely required in order to help keep me safe!!! Since I can track shadows, I like to chase anything that moves and if I were to get loose, I would never hear someone holler my name or a recall command nor will I see you waving your hands all willy-nilly trying to get my attention…Needless, to say I am an active and busy puppy…remember, puppy. Yep, I am a true puppy and all that implies. Being deaf and vision impaired means I navigate life with my nose and mouth and though I like to chew, chase and do puppy-things in general I still require extra attention to ensure that I always remain safe!! I am a growing girl that loves to play, play and play some more. I enjoy prancing around and teasing the resident dogs with my toys, playing chase and tug-o-war and running at full speed, the perimeter of my fenced yard.

I am crate trained and my foster family is teaching me so many new things like how to walk whilst tethered to that rope thing you human’s call a “leash” and it’s always helpful (and much appreciated) to have another dog accompany us on our walks to help keep me moving forward. They are also working with me on potty training, which is a work in progress and thankfully they never forget that I am still a puppy, so I get easily distracted outside…do you REALIZE how many smells there are out there??? Anyway, I’m confident that once I’m on a good schedule I will master potty training. Did you know there is this crazy white stuff that I heard foster mom call “snow”? WOW is it cold, but it speaks to me…it does, really…it says… “Kensi, it’s me Snow, you know, that icy cold stuff you feel on your feet…well you MUST dip your nose in my coolness!!! If for no other reason than to get snow on the tip of your nose and make the foster fam laugh!!!” So, I do…yep, I dip my nose right in there and I love it!! What kind of toys do I like you ask??? Well, I need to have toys to chew, toys to just carry around, toys to tug, toys with treats inside and of course toys to hide…yet remember, hiding toys won’t be hard since I can’t really see so no matter where I put it…it’ll be hidden am I right??!! Hey, if you can’t laugh at yourself you CAN you laugh at?? I have not met any kids and I don’t know if they’d be a good fit for me since I navigate the world with my nose and mouth but I do live with some dog savvy cats with whom I do fine but I must say that if there are some of these smack-ya-in-the-face meowy things at my furever home, they should be forewarned that I might get in their space so if you could just tell them to hiss rather than smack me that would be RREEEEAAALLLYYY great!!! Thank you!

I must say you have really learned a LOT about me, but I would like to add one final thought…for those who think a special needs puppy is fragile and helpless…I say “NONSENSE!!” I am a typical puppy with some exceptional navigation skills, and I am a truly happy girl. Now I would love to learn more about you. If you are a patient person/family who will keep a close and loving eye on me and promise to keep me safe and always remember that my training will require diligence, patience, and some innovative thinking like using different types of touch then you are truly the perfect family for me! Believe me, I don’t need to hear or see you to love you unconditionally, that just comes natural to me. I promise that I will add a happiness to your life that you never thought was possible!!

Many of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

This puppy requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.          We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.

Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application.

We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
