Hello! My name is Peanut. I'm a female, pointer mix, who is just over a year old. Young, but wise. I am well-trained. Not only that, but the vet tells me I'm healthy after recently defeating the big bad Mr. Heartworm. I am back to my full force as a 40lb cuddle monster.

I love my people. Oh, you think you can relax on the couch without me? Doubt it. Think you can focus on the tv without me stealing your attention? I always find a way. Think you can walk through the door after a long day without me there welcoming you? Think again! I would be happiest in a home where people were with me during the day.

There are a few things I can work on. Like many dogs, I will resource guard bones or treats that I feel are  extra  special. Work with me on it by giving me treats when other dogs come around so I don't feel the need to protect my food. Leaving food out initially can help me feel safe, too. I can be a little timid in overwhelming situations like being around loud noises (thunderstorms) or people making quick movements. I don't bark much, only when alarmed.

Aside from that, I do super well in most situations. I like car rides. I love walks. I do wonderful on a leash, but will sniff out food and eye up small animals so you'd better keep up! I am food motivated (A.K.A. trainable as heck) and very smart. I already know "sit", "down", "come", "kennel/crate", "outside", "heel", and "go potty". I am crate trained and potty trained, too. Brilliant. I know.

Here's what I'm looking for in a fur-ever home. I do best with another dog in the home or else I have separation anxiety when my humans leave the house. I chase cats and small animals because I have a high prey drive, so I can't live with them, though I'm sure they are very nice creatures. I haven't lived with children under 12 years old, but I do like them when I see them. I should have a fenced yard as well. Last but not least, I need a loving family who can handle all the cuddles I have to offer.

Pick me, pick me! Bring me home. I can't wait to get to know you.

Many of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
