Hello, my name is Yuka, and I am a lovingly sweet young adult male Husky who is truly a “gentle giant” as my foster mom says. I am super well-mannered with all people and dogs. At the dog park, I love to greet all the humans and dogs that come to play with me!!  I never jump on humans, but I love to greet them and get pets. I love pets and cuddles and giving people big licks. I also LOVE to play with toys and BALLS!!!!! I am really good at entertaining myself while my foster family watches television, unlike my resident dog friend who is always bugging them to play.  I also love to tear toys apart, ripping things is so fun (so you might want to hide your towels...they are the MOST fun to rip apart)!!!

I also LOVE other dogs. I love to chase at the dog park and run around and play tug in the fenced yard with my foster dog brother!!! I would really love it if there could be a companion for me at my new home too with whom I can play and hopefully even a big, fenced yard where we can safely run…after all, I am a Husky and running is what I do best!!!!

When I first got to my foster home I didn't know much, but I have learned SO MUCH since being here! I have learned to sit, lay down, and even stay (for a little bit)!!! I also listen really well to "leave it." When I first got here, I was afraid of coming inside from the back yard and even afraid of the stairs but with the help of my confident, dog savvy foster mom, I have already conquered those fears! I love learning and am so proud of myself when I conquer my fears. I  think it would be helpful if my new family are experienced dog parents who can act as confident leads for me and continue to teach me new things and practice my training! Not to mention that I am, as foster mom says, “a giant puppy” and I can be a pretty stubborn guy, so I often need some “pushing” and I mean that literally and figuratively (Hee, hee).

Oh, I also LOVE going on walks and get so excited when my foster mom starts putting her shoes on! We are working on doing a "sit" before putting my harness on, but I get so excited that it's hard sometimes. I also love to smell EVERYTHING when I am on my walks...so sometimes I pull a little bit and zig zag instead of walking in a straight line...but with the right harness and a patient family we can take SO MANY FUN walks together!!! I can go for a very long time and my foster mom even runs with me sometimes, so I would love a family that loves to take me on adventures.

I am almost potty-trained but I do have an accident from time-to-time because I don't know how to tell my foster family when I need to go outside, but I think I am starting to understand that too!! I think I'm supposed to go to the door? I've done it once or twice and it seems to work... I told you I learn fast. :) But I do know that I am supposed to go outside because I always go when I am out there!!!!

One thing I really don't like is that cave thing you people call a “kennel/crate.” First, it takes some persuading to get me in there but once I’m there I will cry a LOT but that’s because I just don’t understand why I need to be in there when the rest of the family is roaming freely in the house. So when my foster family has to leave me alone for a little bit they put my bed in the kitchen and put the gates up with a toy or two and that makes me happy.

Being in a fun, safe furever home is my biggest dream. So, if you are fun, loving, adventurous people who want to keep teaching me all these fun pet tricks that I can do for TREATS, then I think we’re perfect for each other! Please come and take me home, I promise I’m worth it and I will bring a happiness to your life that you never thought was possible!! Please hurry, I’ll be waiting!

Many of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
