Hello! My name is Abner and I am a young adult Shar Pei. My foster mom says I am very handsome and a super sweet boy. She also says I'm a classic Shar Pei personality, which apparently means I'm goofy and stubborn and I like to play. I love my people and like to meet new human friends, especially if they give me tasty treats and scratch my back. I am affectionate with all of the humans in the house, but I am most attached to my foster mom. When she's home I follow her around and I sleep on top of her feet at night. She says I snore like a gentleman. I like other dogs, and I play all day long with my furry foster brother. I really hope my forever home has an energetic dog who will play with me and be my best friend.

I have learned a lot about how to be a house dog, like treats are awesome and I shouldn't stick my nose in another dog's dish until after they have finished eating. A home with patient humans, positive reinforcement, and a doggie mentor will help me continue my education in being a Very Good Boy. I am slowly learning that crates can be a happy place, but I'm not ready to be shut inside one yet. I am continuing to improve on house training and this new-fangled idea that I should do my business outdoors. I have also learned to love taking walks! I like to stop and sniff all the good smells, and I keep trying to chase squirrels even though my foster family insists on holding me back. I don't need a fenced yard if my new people will take me on nice long walks every day. 

My foster mom calls me “lovey-dovey-pookie-pie” because I’m so goofy and sweet. The only thing missing from my life now is the furever home I so richly deserve, with a patient person who will love me unconditionally and keep me safe. If you fit that description and are looking for a companion who will love you unconditionally in return, then you have found your guy. Please stop doing what you’re doing and come pick me up and take me home. I will be here waiting so please hurry!!

Many of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:     

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
