Hello, my name is Pecan. I am a beautiful young adult female Shiba Inu who is very timid and fearful but very sweet. My favorite thing in the world is to be outside in the fenced in yard where I run like the wind, prance, jump, and play. Inside I do not explore much and spend the majority of my time in my happy place with my calming bed and security toy. I am very smart and will respond to my name, but my foster mom has re-named me "Mika" which means "beautiful smell" or "new moon." I have not been away from home since I came to live with my foster mom. I am potty and crate trained and I do well on a leash inside the yard, but I have not yet wanted to venture outside of the yard…as a matter of fact, if my foster mom tries to take me outside the yard, I will just lay down and not move. I really hope my new home has a fenced yard, so I can feel safe…it would also be awesome if my human was home most of the time to keep me company.

My favorite toy is a little fox that I keep with me inside and outside my crate and my favorite treat is a peanut butter “Dream Bone”…they are so good!! I am fearful of loud noises and timid around people, but I do not have any fear aggression. Additionally, like most Shiba’s, I am a pretty quiet girl. I have not had any experience with kids or cats, so I don’t know if I like them. I live with another Shiba and I get along fine with her.

My foster mom says that I am the “sweetest dog”,  which is totally true! When you talk to and/or pet me, I look at you like it’s the best thing in the world…because it IS the best thing in the world. My foster mom loves it when I prance around the yard because I smile, and my smile warms her heart every time she sees it. The only thing missing from my life now is the furever home I so richly deserve, with a patient person or family who will love me unconditionally and keep me safe. If you fit that description and are looking for a companion who will love you unconditionally in return, then you have found your gal. I will be here waiting for you to come and bring me to my new furever home! Please hurry!!

Many of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:     

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
