Hello! My name is Penelope and it’s so nice to meet you! I am a shy, loving, energetic gal who loves her cuddles and loves to lay with my humans. While I can be shy and slow to warm up to new people, with a little time, patience, and lot of TLC, I can learn to trust you and be your perfect companion!

I want to make sure I find the perfect FURever home that is willing give me the extra care I will need due to my medical issues and to make sure I am a happy, healthy girl. The veterinarian says I have an inoperable double liver shunt, but don’t fear because this should not affect my life span! This also means I need to be seen by the veterinarian twice a year to make sure my liver issues are in check and stay on my special low-protein dog food.

My favorite things to do are play and nap (which I’ve heard I do in all kinds of weird positions accompanied by cute little snores) and I like my soft chewy treats, bones, greenies, carrots, cheese, and other people food. These really are a few of my favorite things! I am a little fearful of cars and new people and don’t really like the rain, but as with any new experience and situation, a little time and patience is really all it takes to adjust to these things!

My foster family says I’m a very smart girl and learn quickly. I know several obedience commands such as sit, come, kennel/crate, and go potty, and even better, I am crate and potty trained! Wow, my foster family is right; I am a really smart girl! I’m puppy-like in many ways and really playful; you’ll know this by my bark because that’s the only time I do. I would love to play with you and with my sense of curiosity and fear of missing out, I’ll playfully follow you around like an exuberant little shadow! Don’t get me wrong though, I also really love playing with a toy and very content playing with a tennis ball by myself (or my humans’ socks, hats, and gloves)! They don’t mind though because I’m so cute! I am also learning to play in this new thing called grass. It’s such a big world out there with so much more to discover!

When it comes to other dogs, although shy at first, I get along will all dogs I meet and really just want them to play with me! Even at the groomer, I wandered around making friends with all the dogs. However, I understand that there may be other shy dogs like me out there, so if they growl at me and want some space, I will back off. It’s all about boundaries!

As for the leash, I need more practice and am still learning, and am doing very well going out on a leash for potty breaks and exercise.

Wow, writing all this made me realize how special of a girl I really am! If you are ready to give me a FURever home, this special girl promises to give you all the love, excitement, and companionship you’re looking for! Are you ready? I know I am!

Love, Penelope

Many of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
