Hello, my name is Veronica and I am a beautiful, healthy 6 year old, 23 lb female Shih Tzu mix. I am quite nervous and skittish when something unexpected happens, but I absolutely love my humans and being around them. My perfect home would be pretty quiet and not chaotic. For this reason, I would probably do best without kids since they tend to be hyper and make fast motions all the time. I also love toys…as a matter of fact, my foster mom says that I’m a “toy hoarder” because every day I end up with 15 toys in my bed. I will carry them around with me...especially my stuffed animal friends. I also never refuse treats, which has contributed to me being a bit overweight. I am on a little diet which is totally lame, but I do feel better!

I am fearful of loud noises and I am not crazy about the weather…I don’t like to go outside in the rain.  My foster mom is helping me learn how to do my personal business outside and I'm amazing at it! I really am getting ahold of this potty training thing real quick.I have not had any experience with those meowy things. I am, however, good with other doggies and I am crate trained. I have tried walking on a leash and I'm not a big fan. I've even backed out of a couple harnesses! My foster mom has a fenced yard for me to safely run around in and I really hope my furever home has one for me too. 

I am a really quiet girl who only really barks if I’m alarmed by something. The thing I want most in my life is to find a furever home with a patient person who will love me unconditionally.  I won't be anyones next hiking buddy (unless you could carry me around in a backpack which would be so cool!), but I will make a great companion for someone. I have a lot of love to share and if you are looking for a very sweet companion who loves getting scratches, I really hope you’ll come meet me and take me to my new home.

Many of our dogs are obtained from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:     

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
