Hi! My name’s Sassy, and I am a super sweet and silly dachshund who just wants to snuggle, sleep and snack – and not necessarily in that order! There’s so much about me that I think you’ll love, starting with how curious I am. I really like following my humans around just to see what they’re doing since I’m very curious. I enjoy car rides and going to new places.

My curiosity extends to quick walks on a leash now and then and I don’t necessarily need a fenced yard since I’m usually on a leash during any outdoor expeditions. Speaking of which, I’ll always tell you when I need to go outside to visit the utilities. I’m pretty proud of how house-trained I am.

Just so you know, I do tend to prefer the company of my foster parents and even smaller dogs sometimes – either is fine by me – I just would do better in a home without children. I also don’t mind just hanging out in my crate or cuddling under blankets – preferably next to your warm legs! I’m a heat seeker, so you’ll always find me in the warmest place in the house, kind of like a cat. Speaking of which, I tend to chase cats around, so it would be best if I didn’t live with one.

I can be pretty entertaining sometimes, if you like comedy! I stand tall on my hind legs for treats (small ones, since dachshunds have to watch their figures), AND I can “sit” and “come”! I “speak” too, but not on command – usually I do it when I’m alarmed and feel like I should tell you that someone is coming. This means that apartments and town homes aren’t a great fit for me.

I really hope we can meet soon - I know I would love living in your home with you!

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:     

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
