Nicole is a 65 lb yellow lab who is very friendly with everyone she meets. On walks she pulls me toward passers by (with a wiggle in her butt) especially if they acknowledge her or are walking a dog. She loves playing with other dogs! She thinks saying hi means jumping up on people. (we are working on it). She is sometimes unsure about new men. She will give a low growl or a soft bark and will try to distance herself from them. Once she has been reassured, she does fine. I've scolded her twice and both times she has coward and become very submissive. I think she may have a history of men who were mean to her. It takes her a little while to become comfortable in new situations and settle in. The first night I had her, she spent most of it intermittently growling at people on TV. She can go upstairs but not down them yet. She is mostly housebroken, she has had two accidents, but one was my fault. She doesn't go potty on walks, only in the yard. She is super mellow but will play hard when given the opportunity. I assumed she was 5 or 6 because she behaves like a more mature dog. She sleeps with me and does really well once we settle in. When I need to leave her, I put her in a kennel because as soon as she is left to her own devices she gets into everything. She has grabbed my gloves, socks, remotes, dishes on the counter, blankets pillows my phone, she hasn't destroyed much, mostly she just mouths objects but cannot be left alone and cannot be trusted, yet. I think once she learns her boundaries she will do fine. She's a quick learner. In a week, she has gone from being one of the worst walking dogs I've encountered to doing relatively well. She is very content to spend all day sleeping on the couch. She needs to learn how to be a dog, she doesn't know any commands and I'm not sure if she knows who "Nikki" is most of the time. (I've been calling her Nikki). She responds to a whistle. Overall, she's just the sweetest dog and will make some family so lucky! Could she be the perfect new addition to your family!?

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
