Hi, I’m Percy, a happy shih tzu looking for my Forever Home. My favorite things to do are going for loooonng walks and playing with the other dogs in my foster home. I am really great on a leash and all the smells and things to look at are exciting!

My foster family has a fenced backyard and I love laying in the grass catching some rays – give me a snack or something fun to chew on and I am a happy boy! I get along great with all the little dogs in my foster home, in fact I do need another dog in my Forever Home to keep me company. Sometimes I tell my foster family when I see exciting things outside - an occasional bark happens! I do bark a lot in the kennel - it is not one of my favorite places. 

I am still working on potty training – if you keep me on a routine I do great. My foster dad puts a belly band on me just in case I forget that I’m not supposed to make puddles in the house. My foster family is also working with me so I am not so anxious. When I know my place in the house, my anxiety is much less and I do great! It really helps my separation anxiety if my family gives me a predictable routine so I can keep track of my people and activity in the house. My middle name should be Shadow, because if you turn around, I am right there! LOL! I would do best in a home with older kids/adult that understand they are the boss and be consistent with me.  

I am really good at games to keep my mind busy – my foster mom has one she calls “earn your treat” that she plays with me and the other dogs in the house. If we are good, we earn snuggle time on the couch and new things – she is very good about being the boss and I love her so much, but the time has come for me to find my Forever Home.

I promise to try and do my best and hoping for a family with a ton of unconditional love and stability. If you are patient, promise to not give up on me and are looking for your very own shadow then I am your guy! I promise I am worth the time and I cannot wait to share my life with you! Love, Percy

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:     

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
