Meet Hal! He is an absolute sweetheart and aspiring professional snuggler. He is still getting used to all the exciting things this world has to offer and loves his person very much. He likes to greet everyone with a bashful look and a happy little tail wag followed by a lick on the hand.
When he's not snuggling, his long nose takes him on many an adventure for lost treasures on the kitchen floor. And, this can lead him into trouble with the resident cat who greatly disapproves when he takes over her bed, steals her toys, or sneaks a couple morsels of her food.
Hal is making strides on potty training, leash walking, and commands. Given a consistent schedule, he potties outside, but he wears a belly band inside in case he fear pees. Hal is crate trained and stays quiet waiting for his family to return home for snuggles. He also does well on a leash, minding his surroundings and keeping pace. Occasionally, he does enjoy a full-speed ears-flopping-in-the-wind sprint but always gives a little look first as if to ask "please, please, please can we run as fast as we can?"
When it's time to go back inside, Hal is learning to wait patiently for his feet to be dried and his coat removed. He also knows general commands, including “up” and “come.” Some additional commands that he is working on include: outside, inside, paw, come, EH! (for no), down, and coat. When he has too much fun outside, he is a trooper about taking baths. Post-bath zoomies and deep blanket burrowing gives an inside look at how big of a goofball this little guy can be!
Hal can get overwhelmed by a lot of commotion, so a quieter home will be better for him. He does show fear to men and can display some overprotective (people resource guarding) with his favorite person, so he will growl and bark. If you continue to push him, he will lunge and bite. His foster family has been doing some work on this, but male adopters should expect it will take time for Hal to warm up to them. He is also working on separation training, so Hal understands he doesn't have to be such a Velcro dog. He frequently goes to the office with his foster mom and hangs out under her desk supervising office life. He greets everyone with a bashful look, a tiny wiggle of his tail, and some soft sweet kisses on their hands. It is impossible not to fall in love once you’ve met Hal.
Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.
