Hello, my name is Pete and I am a healthy adult male Shih Tzu who is a quiet boy that is comfortable at home and likes to do my own thing.  Outside of my foster home, I am still pretty shy and will run around at first, but then I will settle down and allow people to pet or hold me. My foster mom says I’m coming out of my shell. I am able to climb up stairs just fine, but my front legs are slightly deformed, so going down stairs or getting down from the bed or couch is very difficult for me, so I need help.

I love to run around the living room with my foster brother and play with toys especially crinkly or squeaky toys. I also enjoy treats, but I don’t feel comfortable taking treats from a human’s hand yet. I am okay with children approximately 8 years or older as long as they understand that I am very shy and they have to be gentle with me.

Overwhelming commotion frightens me and my foster mom is helping me get use to that leash thing…right now my body freezes when it’s on me, but I think I’m getting better. I will go potty outside but will sometimes have #2 accidents in the house. I am trying so hard to not have accidents and I know if I have patient people who believe in me, and can get me on a consistent schedule, I will master it.

I know commands “kennel/crate,” and “go potty” and I am good with cats and other doggies. I would love it if my furever home has a doggie with whom I can bond. I am crate trained and have only barked once while in the kennel since I’ve been with my foster mom.

My foster mom says that I’m “SUPER chill” and she’s pretty right about that because my favorite pastime is hanging out on the bed with a toy and watching TV. I enjoy human contact and being held too. I did very well at my first haircut too, so I think I’m coming around to humans and beginning to realize that I’m safe. Now all I need is for a patient person who believes in me to come and take me home. I have an enormous amount of unconditional love to share with someone who will love me unconditionally in return…I know that’s you!! Please hurry!

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:     

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
