Hello, my name is Newt and I am a Shiba Inu who is quite handsome if I do say so myself. I love diverse social gatherings whether with some other large or small doggie friends or those noisy two-legged friends…I think I’ve heard of them referred to as children.

Considering I am still a very young man, only 3 months old, I am already able to hold my potty through the night and I never go in my safe place. I think I’ve heard my foster parent refer to my safe place as a crate or a kennel…but whatever you call it, I don’t go potties in there…who wants to sleep in a wet bed?  My foster parents will lay this pad-lookin’ thing out on the floor and I do sometimes go potty on that; though, I prefer to do my personal business outside.  If I don’t see one of those pad things and I need to go, I will whine and let ya know that I need to go.  I am a Shiba and we are fastidious, so getting rid of the potty pads would be nice but that’s a work in progress.

I love to play with any toy given to me, take naps, go on walks (alone or with other doggie friends), and I wish I could go walkin’ more often.  I also like these rides that I sometimes get to go on.  My foster parent puts me in this huge thing with wheels~ I know you may not think it’s huge, but to me it’s a giant.  I think they call it a car, but I love going in it and if I’m lucky I get to put my head out the window and let the wind blow my hair even though it tickles my ears a bit. What’s even more fun is when I have my head out the window I always get these great smiles from strangers in their own giants ‘cuz they think…no, they KNOW…I’m so adorable! I love that!!

I’m sure you already know a lot about us Shiba’s, but you may be surprised to know that in addition to being fastidious, we don’t really like to bark much.  That said, I admit that I do sometimes bark a tiny bit during play or when I’m excited. I guess I figure if you can laugh or giggle when you’re excited then it’s okay for me bark or yodel a little when I’m excited. Also, I loves me some cuddles!! I love unconditionally and when my non-furry friend holds and cuddles me I feel safe and loved!  I think you would agree that there is nothing in the world that is better than being loved unconditionally!

I really think we should meet!!

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

This puppy requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.       We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.

Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application.

We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
