Hello, my name is Haiku and I am an adorable female Shiba Inu puppy.

I am an energetic girl who loves to play but can be a bit nippy sometimes.  I just consider them little love nibbles but apparently not everybody wants little love nibbles so I am working on toning it down and I really believe that with some consistency and proper boundaries I will learn not to do love nibbles anymore.

My favorite toys include this fabric thing that my foster mom calls her “dress”, these long things that help my foster mom stand up ~ she calls those “legs” and then there are doggie chew toys of course because after all, I am a dog.

I’m very smart and already know my name and a couple other commands like “sit,” “come,” and “outside.”  I do pretty well with those little people and I am crate trained and am working very hard on potty training.  I am a Shiba and if you’ve done your homework, you know that we don’t bark much, but I will bark if I am alarmed by something and we are pretty much known for bolting if given the chance, so it would be nice to have a fenced yard at my furever home, but it is not a requirement for me because I am a good girl and doing pretty well on a leash.

My foster mom tells me that I pull on the leash when we’re walking…she just doesn’t understand who is walking who.  That said, I am trying to get better at letting her walk me rather than the other way around because believe it or not, I have found that we both have a more enjoyable outing if I just cooperate with her.  I am good with other doggies especially assertive one’s, but I will admit that I tend to pick on submissive doggies…I don’t know why, I just do.

C’mon, remember my name?  Did you honestly think I could tell you about myself without including one? Please come bring me to my new furever home so you can lovingly and patiently help me learn to be a dog!

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

This puppy requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.       We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.

Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application.

We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
