Say a warm hello to Gibson. He’s a 1 year old, 15lb Mini Aussie. He is a calm dog, but he has begun to find his voice during playtime. He is also learning to trust; while he remains cautious of people and new situations, when he is near one of the resident dogs he is becoming a brave little boy. Gibson loves toys and chew bones. He tosses them in the air and chases them.
He loves to play keep-a-way from the resident dogs. He has learned that playing chase in the yard is really fun. He keeps up with the big dogs too. He absolutely loves to go on walks. He has such a cheerful way about him on the walk - exploring the world and smells is the best! He has learned so much from being with other dogs: running, chasing, and sniffing everywhere. He also finds it quite relaxing to just simply lay in the grass and watch all of the things around him.
When on a good schedule, he is really close to being house trained. He has begun to go to the door. He does not bark to let you know; however, he does know the door that leads him to his potty break. He is also learning the command “go potty’. He is crated at night without a peep. His foster mom works from home, so he gets crated when people are away for a few hours. He does require a fenced in yard as he is not leashed trained and very fearful of new things. He is a work in progress and moving towards good leash walking though. He does require a specific harness to walk on leash. He wears this harness because he is still fearful of new things. This gives him that extra level of protection that he needs right now.
Gibson is great with all dog friendly dogs. He does not live with large or small dogs right now, so he’s only been around medium sized dogs or dogs around his size. Living with multiple cats has given him the opportunity to investigate and sniff; he is gentle when greeting them. He does bark when playing with the resident dogs as he mimics them.
While Gibson remains a shy dog, he is opening up to the new world around him very confidently. His sweet, gentle demeanor will win you over. Come and meet him for yourself!
Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.
