Meet Kimchi – a very curious and energetic 6 year old, 25 lb, Shiba Inu. She is a little shy at first and does have a slow adjustment period, but is the sweetest and most affectionate Shiba you'll ever meet. She's most content simply sitting in your lap. Kimchi also really comes alive when outdoors on walks. If you feel a paw on your leg or a lick on your hand, it's Kimchi wanting a hug! Kimchi really enjoys running free in the fenced backyard too. Is she gets regular walks, she might be okay without a fenced in yard. She can climb a fence, so she will need to be watched. While she has shown interest in most toys, a tennis ball is her favorite toy as well as her favorite thing to chase unless she sees a squirrel!
When on a good schedule, she is close to being house trained. She will go immediately at the dog park and will go on a retractable leash, but she still does not tell you when she needs to go. Due to this, she's had occasional inside accidents. She is learning leash walking, so it's still a little new and slow going at times, but other times, she's ready to go on a full on sprint rather than walk. She's extremely smart and has been picking it up fairly quickly with consistency. She is learning to come when she hears her foster mom’s voice. She sleeps quietly in her crate (with the door open) at night; she will come into her foster mom’s bed to snuggle in.
She loves kids, other dogs, and is a very sweet dog. She has seen a cat and didn't immediately lunge or try to chase him. She is mostly quiet but barks for play. Unfortunately, she thinks it's playtime right after breakfast, which is usually 4:30-5am! Her foster family has been working on this early morning barking and it has lessened. Kimchi could do fine in a home with or without dogs. She is extremely social though, so if her forever family did not have a dog, she would need to go to a dog park a couple times a week. She depends on people at home and mostly ignores the resident dog, but she does take off and socialize independently while at parks with other dogs. The sound of busy traffic is absolutely mortifying for her and she needs to be carried. She's also jumpy around certain noises like a pop can crinkle, a snap, or a lighter click. Mostly, it’s the sound of sudden popping/cracking noises that frighten her.
Kimchi would be a wonderful family dog for an energetic family that is willing to play outside with her, take her for long walks, and give her lots of cuddles. She’s on the lookout for her very best forever home to call her own. Plan to meet her today.
Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:
Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE:
The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.
FOSTER CARE:
All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application.
NUTRITION:
Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
