Hey all. I’m Walker - a 5 year old, 11 lb Yorkie boy. I’m confident, happy, friendly, and very active. I’m about as sweet as can be too. How is that for an intro? Pretty impressive, huh? Well, there’s more of course.

I love to lay in the sun and am addicted to head rubs. I mean, ADDICTED! The moment you stop, I will paw and nudge into your hand for more. I’m not ashamed to say that I’m a non-stop cuddle bug (mainly for the rubs). I'm not sure how much I can stress that I have a serious addition for head rubs!!!  It’s what I crave each and every day, all day! I am becoming fearless and I know my name. I will even run up to you when called. My foster mom says that I’ve got the silliest run. I guess that’s a good thing?

I am a great eater and since I don’t have teeth, I enjoy dry kibbles soaked in water that helps me along you see. I also loves to lick things out of Kongs and bones. Once I figure out the soft toys, I'm sure I’ll enjoy those too.  I am learning some words: ‘sit’, ‘leave it; a command word for ‘outside’ and ‘go potty’.

Speaking of going potty - I am potty trained and I do not use potty pads at all either!   Just a heads up on walks, long walks will get everything out of me …wink wink. I’m walking great on a double leash as well. Noises make me stop in my tracks, but I won’t run away. I am a marker, so I’d recommend going for 2-3 blocks length to make sure I get it all out. I have not figured out going #2 on grass yet, so I’d prefer to do it on cement. Odd but true.

The crate is something else though. I will bark and go potty in there, but I don’t have to go in one anymore- thankfully.  When my foster parents leave the house, I am free roam the upstairs level. I’ll have you know that I have not had an accidents!  I so prefer to free roam in a larger area than be in that crate. Oh, I sleep on the bed with my foster parents. I love to cuddle up against them! I’ve become very attached to humans and would prefer to not be left alone in the house for more than 3-4 hours at a time. I follow my foster parents everywhere. I pretty much ignore dogs of all sizes, they don't bother me at all. I do enjoy taking long walks at the dog park and will let all dogs sniff me. I have started to bounce around with the small resident dog. I still don’t know how to "play" with a dog, but I am mimicking the bouncing up and down motion.

I do well on car rides too. I want to look outside and then I start shaking. I know sounds weird, but I get a scared thrill I guess! I am still a bit timid around the house, but I enjoy running in the fenced in yard with the resident dogs. Fun. I am not afraid of anyone (men or women). I have met some little people or has humans call them – kids. They were between 3-8 years old. I approached each and asked for head rubs, which I received! Yah! They even gently picked me up- I mean I let them. These kids were great and well behaved, so it was all good! I have also met a cat- they are okay, but what strange creatures these cats are. I think I like kids better!

So, that’s a little about me. What about you? I’ll be conducting on-site interviews at the events where I will be appearing. If you’d like to meet with me one-on-one, we can arrange that too! Thanks for stopping to read about the one and only Walker!

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
