Hi, I'm Cubby, a 16 pound Maltese/Yorkie mix, but I look more Yorkie.  I'm a very sweet and friendly  as long as you live in my home or even if I meet you outside of it. If someone visits my home though, I get very anxious and I have an overwhelming urge to bite them.  I mean if you're looking for a guard dog that's on the smaller side, but yet very determined, I'm your dude! Other than that, I'm a truly fantastic dog.

I act a little shy at first, but I warm up pretty quickly. I enjoy being close to my person and my fur siblings as well as making sure the house is safe and secure! I'm pretty darn good at cuddling. Often I am a little shadow and like to follow you around.  I also like to chew on bully sticks, raw bones, pigs ears, basically any treat.  And I play, I love to play and run around.  A fur friend to play with, preferably a female is even better!

I'm potty trained, crate trained, leash trained, mat trained and I know basic commands like sit, come, down, shake, spin, catch, and kennel. I'm so smart and easy to train, maybe you could teach me some more?

A calm and loving home would be perfect for me.  I'm looking for a home that has one person or a couple that don't anticipate any change in their situation for about 10 years. Absolutely no kids and no grandchildren. I actually like kids if they live in my home, but kids tend to have friends over and strangers in my home gets me upset. I need to be in a home that is quiet and does not have many visitors.  I am aggressive toward guests and will bite them if you don't kennel me or leash me. I really protect my home, I mean I over protect my home! I'm working on getting better and have made some strides so that my "condition" is manageable and may not even exist some day.  I take Prozac for it too, to help control my anxiety. I need an owner that will continue to help me work on it and they need to be a strong leader for me. I need someone to look up to and to lead me. I truly am a wonderful dog in every single way except this one thing.  I love my own people and it would never even cross my mind to hurt them. Being my owner does come with responsibility to keep people safe and to help me to not want to bite the guests. If you've got a quiet home and the commitment to keep up with my training along with being a good leader for me, please apply to adopt me today!

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit.  Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
