My name is Dahlia. I am about 8 years old and 8 pounds. I am very sweet and gentle and I want to be your friend.

Right now, I am shy, but I become more trusting every day. I used to shy away from being picked up, but now I stay put and let my foster mom pick me up. I'm learning that it usually means something good is going to be happen!

A calm household would be great for me. A lot of activity, sounds, and children make me nervous and I'm just not used to it all yet. I don't ask for much and I enjoy the simple things in life. Like curling up on a dog bed or watching my foster mom.

I am working on all sort of doggie skills. My house training is coming along and I'm working hard. I've mastered stairs and am learning about leashes. I sort of don't move much when I'm hooked up to one, but with more practice, I'm hoping to get more comfortable! I've become more comfortable with my voice. I don't use it much at all, but do make some sounds when I get excited about meal times or when I get startled.

I like to follow the other dogs to see what we are going to do next. There are puppies in the house and I like to make sure they are doing well. I also check on the resident dog. I even monitor the house from my dog bed and make sure things are going smoothly. My supervisor skills are pretty darn good. I am even thinking of asking for a raise of two extra dog treats a day!

Having a companion around most the time, whether they be a dog or human, is something I need. With patience and love, I know I can be a great pup! I hope I get to show you just how great I can be.

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
