I am Oats! Sometimes my foster ma calls me Cookie (like an oatmeal cookie). I am about 3 years old and learning how to trust people after my first years in a commercial breeding facility. Because I am so shy and can be spooked, I will need a fenced yard to keep me safe. I’m starting to come inside when called and getting pretty brave running past my foster ma to get into the house, but sometimes I don’t come in without help. Sometimes, my foster ma will find me sitting in the corner of the yard behind the shed—I can’t see any people there, so I like it. I feel the safest in my large wire kennel, but because I am getting so brave when I’m out of my kennel, my foster ma encourages my confidence building by only having me in there when she’s gone. She is gone at work 5 days a week, and—by the way—I have never had an accident!
I’m pretty comfortable sleeping on the ground, but my foster ma has been putting me on her bed at night for 1 month now to help build trust. I used to stay as far away as possible, but I now will lean against her leg, and have licked her hand a couple times in the night! I recently finally figured out how to hop off the bed in the morning, and although I don’t NEED to sleep on a bed, I my foster ma is proud of me for knowing what room to go in at bedtime (it’s my favorite room, aside from my kennel) and for starting to put my paws up on the bed when it’s time to be lifted up.
The one thing that makes my tail wag is other dogs! They DO make me happy… I even have some good play moves, if I think there are no two-leggeds around to see me. So, I WILL need a doggy friend in my new home. I have to admit, I was SO scared of moving when humans were around me before—I just would not budge. My foster ma helped by coming up to me with tasty treats like chicken and steak, and said “Cookie!” I liked that. Once I started moving better, my foster ma surprised me with a trip to the dog park! She kept me on leash, but it turns out I think the dog park is pretty cool. I started to learn how to walk on leash there, and on June 10th did my first walk ALL the way down the block and back. I think I like this “go for a walk” thing!
I really like it here, but I’d like to find my forever home. Do you have the patience for an introverted sweetheart like me? It will take some time for me to trust you—I’m not the typical always-exuberant personality you might be familiar with with the wheaten breed, but I’m a GOOD dog with a heart of gold.
Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:
Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.
ADOPTION PROCEDURE:
The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.
FOSTER CARE:
All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application.
NUTRITION:
Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
