Whether he’s chewing on Nylabones or going on a short walk, this tiny, shy 10-year old dog puts his heart into everything.

Santana is nervous about new things and new people so he takes quite a while to get comfortable in a new environment. But it is a joy to watch him grow and become more courageous every day. A patient forever home will eventually be rewarded with love and devotion of this sweet fellow, and it will feel that much better when your work pays off.

Santana  enjoys being in a low-key environment and one without small kiddos. He needs another small dog friend to live with in his forever home. Cats should be fine too as long as they don’t pick on him. Santana is very good about pottying outside, but he is also used to using a potty pad indoors and would likely want to continue with that. With frequent potty breaks and vigilance, he's pretty reliable.

Santana has cute little bark and does like to use his voice when he's scared. He mostly barks when other dogs bark or when strangers come in to the home. He will figure out he's ok though and quiet down. Santana enjoys being pet and getting little doggy massages. His favorite spot in the house is the dog cave, i.e., a covered end table next to the couch, with a dog bed in it.

Like many small pups, Santana has a weak back patella. He does fine with it and doesn't need to go on long walks. He's more comfortable sticking to the yard, though he does like to explore a little in warmer weather.

It will take him awhile for him to see you as “his” person but once he stakes his claim, you’ll see his love was worth the wait.

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
