Hola!  My name is Queso; although, I am approximately 10 years old, Chihuahuas have the longest life span, so I am barely middle aged.  I’m 8 lbs and have a luxating patella on my back right leg, but that doesn’t stop me from running happily in the yard looking for little bird seeds and other teeny tiny morsels.  I go to the bathroom outside and also can use potty pads; I do great with a routine and am hoping to get this house breaking thing down soon. I've also been walking on a leash and that is going well. 

Life in a home is very exciting and I have done well adjusting to it. I am a happy little dog but sometimes a little unsure of new things.  I love it when my humans get home from work and when it's time to eat. Meal time is the best!   When I’m excited, I’ll let out my beautiful bark to show my appreciation.  My favorite thing to do is to eat, chew on raw bones, and sleep! During meal time, I will wiggle my whole body. I am a champion wiggle butt.

I sleep in bed near my foster mom and will lie on the couch with her. I may not always enjoy being cradled in a set of arms or being picked up, but I truly am thrilled to be in your presence and enjoy getting pets. It's so nice to be loved. 

I can be nervous around people and do best when folks approach me slowly. I would prefer another calm dog companion to keep me company. They can continue to teach me how to be brave.  I may do okay with a patient female who is at home most of the time.  Men frighten me at the moment.  Younger children are too lively for me but older children I can tolerate.  I live with some pups and a kitty right now and enjoy being their little shadow!

I am happy and affectionate and simply want to be able to share everything with my friends and new family to-be! It will take me some time to trust in a new home, possibly several months, but I promise, my love for you is absolutely worth the wait.

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

ADOPTION EVENTS:     

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
