Hi! My name is Vela.  I am an energetic, spunky and silly pup. My curiosity guides to me all sorts of explorations and often my silly antics makes everyone laugh.   I adore humans; I LOVE to snuggle and am very loyal. I am even more loyal if you give me a banana or cheese. Yum! Bones are also yummy and I could chew on them all day.

When I am not searching for morsels of food or snuggling with my hoomans, I love playing outside. Outside is my favorite! Oh, and did I mention how smart I am yet!? well, I am so, so smart. Sometimes I am so smart that I tend to try to be the pack leader if someone else doesn't volunteer. Because of this, I will need an adopter who can be a strong pack leader. This helps me a lot! I look to my handler for guidance and cues, since I'm a bit nervous in new environments. The more calm and confident my handler is, the better I do! I have proven to well in dog friendly businesses and with strangers when my calm hooman companion is by my side. I can be cautious around men, but once I know I am safe and they are friendly, I become attached and show excitement when I see them!

I learned how to sit on command in less than one day and I also know have practiced all the down, stay, kennel, wait, and leave it commands! I'm trying to perfect my walking skills and do well with my heel commands. I have some reactivity on a leash when I see other dogs, so we are working on this. It may seem kind of silly, since I actually do pretty great with other dogs. Playing with them a lot of fun, especially tug-of-war. If there are toys out, it's best to supervise us though. I can be particular about my fur friends, so I'm looking for the right fit in a fur sibling if you already have one in your home. If you have any cats, don't worry, I don't really know what they are and leave them be. Do YOU know what they are?

I am somewhat of a jumping bean right now. I like to jump on people I really like. Oops, I guess I'm not supposed to do that. Have you ever just been so excited and happy when you see your favorite hoomans, that your heart explodes? Then your body tries to explode?! That's how I feel. I've been working hard on keeping my chill and food motivation helps a lot. Though I have my energetic side, I also have my couch potato side. I like to sit on the couch with my resident dog friends and also sleep in the bed with everyone. I ride well in the car, though those swooshing buses and trucks are frightening and I shake when I see them. I heard some dogs are the same, and even some people that get nervous when driving by big trucks! Maybe we should all just snuggle up and play with toys instead!

I may seem like a little bit of work, but I improve daily and my human friends are fond of me. Which means I know you will be, too! I can't wait to meet my new family and have a lifetime of fun and memories with them!

P.S. Can you please invest in Nylabones or antlers? I am a power chewer and love them! #sorrynotsorry

ADOPTION EVENTS:

Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved.

ADOPTION PROCEDURE:

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions.

FOSTER CARE:

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
